Rotten Apple on the darknet

Having just passed the 10 year anniversary of the release of the first iPhone, we decided to take a look at just how many iPhones you can find on the darknet.

As expected, there are quite a few Apple products for sale on the darknet, and our analyst found nearly a half a dozen darknet sites up and operational offering Apple products for sale.

Without further ado, here are six sites selling iPhones, iPads and more.

1: THE DARK APPLE STORE

Offering Apple products at up to 50% off, The Dark Apple Store (http://ipadairzbbpb6gas.onion/) is well-known on Tor.

2: APPLEWORLD

With "prices checked everyday" appleworld offers an extensive range of Apple products from laptops to consoles, with worldwide shipping directly to home addresses (http://35flmpspwpnarbos.onion/).

3: APPLE PALACE

With one of the cheesiest designs, Apple Palace offers many iPhone options, as well as random items like the PS4 seen by our analyst.

4: APPLES 4 BITCOIN

Powered by TorShops, Apples 4 Bitcoin offers an incentive of 1% of referral purchases (http://tfwdi3izigxllure.onion/).

5: APPLE STORE (DARKNET VERSION)

The Apple Store (darknet) offers zero risk for the buyer and 50% off of retail prices. The store's inventory comes from products purchased with stolen credit card information (http://applekfwov4jebmr.onion/).

6: APPLE MERCH

Apple Merch offers a mix of Apple products, which come primarily from black market purchases off of thieves (http://applei7nkshrsnih.onion). Below you can see the FAQ for Apple Merch.

7: VARIOUS FORUMS

In addition to Apple-specific stores like mentioned above, we have observed offers for “Getting Apple Products for Free” on a variety of darknet forums and social media hidden services. Many of these products are obtained by hackers that have found ways to exploit Apple's website (apple.com).

As you can see from above, trade in stolen or even counterfeit Apple products can be seen all over the darknet. The Apple brand is also notoriously exploited by cyber criminals, many of whom go above and beyond to mask their attacks, such as the below phishing campaign, as genuine Apple emails, products or services.

Companies, many not nearly the size of Apple, must protect their brand. What is at stake? A company’s brand and reputation, clients, and valuation can all suffer severely due to the impact of a data breach. Awareness of proprietary brand data on the darknet serves as an early warning system to help companies get in front of a data leak, breach or other compromise.

DarkOwl Vision indexes more DARKINT™ in one hour than an analyst can discover in one month. Rather than accessing data directly on the darknet, which is difficult and risky, we provide you a secure platform from which you can quickly and easily search darknet data and make darknet intelligence an integral part of your existing security solutions.
